Additionally, there is a vetting committee you must pass before they'll even consider you as a potential buyer.
This committee not only looks at your net worth but also your lifestyle since there is a code of confidentiality and privacy. By having only homeowners on the ship, it works to create a community and family setting where the residents work together to get the most out of each year.
Maintenance Fees
If you purchase an apartment aboard The World, there are yearly maintenance fees to pay. Depending on the size of your purchase, these are typically $100,000 or more to cover repairs, housekeeping services, and replacements of interior appliances and fixtures. When you purchase a home on The World, your purchase will include:

- China, crystal, and utensils
- Draperies
- Appliances
However, since this is your home, you have the option to redecorate and furbish the apartment how you choose within committee guidelines.
World Destinations
Travel on the World is decided by the residents and the staff strive to make each voyage unique. These journeys typically run three-month spans. For example, from January to March 2018, The World covered North and South America, including ports at Devil's Island and Buenos Aires. From October to December 2018, typically the busiest time on the ship when it could top out at 330 passengers, they will be stopping at ports throughout Spain, France and several stops on the African Continent. In 2019, the ship will take residents from Africa to Alaska to East Asia.
Enrichment Program
A unique feature this cruise line affords to residents and guests is its Enrichment program. This Enrichment program covers all areas from your mind to your taste buds. Through their Guest Chef Program, residents enjoyed a multi-course meal from the likes of Chef Silivo Nickol in Amsterdam. To enrich their minds, the ship features a unique The World Nobel Laureate Lecture Series, where they connect and chat with Nobel Prize winners in medicine and science, like Dr. Edvard Ingjald Moser, an expert in neuroscience and psychology.
Fascinating Expeditions
Three times a year, The World opens itself up to expeditions that not only take the residents but about 20 subject matter experts to different areas around the globe for a two to three week excursion. These expeditions are typically to unusual areas and include lectures, discussions and even field trips where the residents and experts experience the area first-hand.
Past trips have been to Greenland and Namibia. In 2018 and 2019, the luxury ship will visit British Isles, Madagascar and the High Arctic, among other areas. Some of these trips are record breaking. For example, in 2017, the ship broke the record for most southerly navigation at Bay of Whales.
